1. Who we are

ForecourtFinder (forecourtfinder.co.uk) is an independent UK website that helps drivers find the cheapest fuel prices nearby. It is operated as an independent personal project based in England.

2. Data we collect

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-JH5C3SGQW1) to understand how visitors use the site. This collects anonymised usage data including pages visited, session duration, and approximate location (country/region level). Your IP address is not stored by us. Analytics are only loaded after you accept cookies.

Cookie consent

We store your cookie preference in your browser's localStorage under the key ff_cookie_consent. This contains only your accept/decline choice and no personal information.

Garage / vehicle data

If you use the Garage feature, your vehicle names and fuel types are stored locally in your browser's localStorage under the keys ff_garage and ff_active_car. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers.

Price alerts (email address)

If you sign up for price alerts, we collect your email address solely to send you fuel price notifications. This is stored securely in our database. We will never share your email address with third parties or use it for marketing purposes unrelated to price alerts.

Location data

When you use "Find near me", your browser shares your GPS coordinates with us temporarily to find nearby stations. These coordinates are used only to process your request and are not stored or logged.

3. Third-party services

ForecourtFinder uses the following third-party services:

GOV.UK Fuel Prices API: Our fuel price data comes from the mandatory UK Government fuel price reporting API. No personal data is sent to GOV.UK.
Nominatim and postcodes.io: Used to convert postcodes and place names into coordinates for searching. Only the postcode or place name you enter is sent; no account data is transmitted.
OSRM (Open Source Routing Machine): Used for route planning. Your start and end coordinates are sent to the public OSRM demo server to calculate a route.
Google Maps: "Get directions" links open Google Maps in a new tab. ForecourtFinder does not embed Google Maps and does not load Google Maps scripts on our pages.
Google Analytics 4: Only loaded after you consent to cookies.

4. Cookies

We use a minimal number of cookies and browser storage mechanisms:

ff_cookie_consent (localStorage): stores your cookie preference
ff_garage / ff_active_car (localStorage): stores your saved vehicles locally
_ga, _ga_* (cookies): Google Analytics, only set after consent

We do not use advertising cookies. No advertising cookies are set until and unless we implement a monetisation programme, at which point this policy will be updated.

5. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are based in the UK or EEA, you have the following rights:

Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Deletion: request deletion of your personal data (e.g. price alert email)
Rectification: request correction of inaccurate data
Withdraw consent: you can withdraw cookie consent at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage for this site
Portability: request your data in a machine-readable format

6. Data retention

Price alert email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months per Google's default settings. Local browser data persists until you clear it yourself.

7. Data sharing and selling

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or commercial purposes. Data is only shared with the third-party services described in Section 3 to the extent necessary to provide site functionality.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of ForecourtFinder after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
